7-6-13 The L22s - A New Learning Opportunity

Saturday, July 6th
...the whales 'sleep'...

...they forage...

...they travel...Skana L-79 (left) and Spirit L-22...

...they play...
Spirit L-22...

...two tails in a 'tangle'...

Solstice L-89...

...and they have been
doing that just about
every day
for the last 4 days...
and all that was while on Maya's Westside Charters

The Benefits of Their Presence
-People are getting to know the family of Spirit L-22 and her two boys.
-When there are so many whales, though it's magnificent, it can be sensory overload...with the L22s being the only killer whales present, folks seem to be coming away from an encounter with a much deeper respect for the whales.
-Even folks who have come to the island multiple times have expressed a greater sense of these 'people of the sea'.
-The absence of the other 79 whales of the Community has also raised many questions and increased people's awareness that it isn't just 'empty talk' when they hear about the decline of the salmon, the toxins that pollute and the things they can do help the whales and this ecosystem.

-I hope that when the salmon come in that J, K, and the rest of L pod are right behind them.
-I hope that when that happens, the time of May, June and now into July is not forgotten.
-The presence of 3 and the absence of 79 is speaking volumes. Is anyone out there paying attention?
