9-20-15 Will They Make It This Time?

Sunday, September 20th
...the whales didn't get too far out in the Strait of Juan de Fuca when they decided to come back in...now is that a good thing or not?...are they following salmon in and eating them on the way or are the not finding salmon out there so they are coming back in here?...don't know the answer to that...

...almost a repeat of yesterday...watching the whales coming in...will they make it...get to the lighthouse to see...yes!  Granny J-2 is in the lead with Lea K-14 near...then Lobo K-26...nasty seas for sure...
...the rain came and it poured and poured...
...all of a sudden my pictures were blue...not sure what button I hit this time...but it was raining too hard to try to figure it out...

...the J16s came by with little guys (but not big guy Mike J-26)...not sure how many little ones...at least Scarlet J-50 and Sonic J-52...thought I might have seen another and it might have been Nova J-51 because Eclipse J-41 and Shachi J-19 were not far behind...

...some whales had gone by and gone up island...others came up and stalled out at the lighthouse...Mike J-26 was one of them...
...he was about 20 minutes behind the group the rest of his family was with...Mike appeared to be socializing (or whatever) with a few others, one being Hy'Shqa J-37...and another being Rainshadow K-37...Samish J-14, Suttles J-40, and Se-Yi-Chn J-45 were up ahead of them...

...the calls over the hydrophones, when the whales were passing, were a mixture of all three pods most of the time...but the whales were not in close and with the rain/fog it was nearly impossible to figure out who was who...

...I did see some K13s, some K14s, some J14s, some K12s, the J19s, Granny J-2...I heard more L pod calls than saw them...so maybe if the seas stop all this nonsense and the sun comes out (though we need the rain, just not when the whales are at the park, please)...and by a long shot the whales are still around...just maybe...
...right now it's 11:41 pm and I am still hearing them every so often in the distance over the Lime Kiln hydrophones (they had been on there since around 8pm non-stop)...and I think all that 'hearing' was them coming back down...but it's dark and so that's only a guess...we'll find out tomorrow...sometime...
